In addition to the former party leader Petry, current AfD leader Gauland has met with the Hans-Georg Maassen, president of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV).
It was claimed in a recently published book, Inside AfD, by AfD dropout Franziska Schreiber that Maassen met with former AfD leader Frauke Petry several times in 2015, advising her how to avoid nationwide surveillance of the AfD by the German secret service.
When Alexander Gauland was asked if he had any tips as Petry did, he said, “For God’s sake! I would be embarrassed to discuss this with Mr. Maassen.”
Gauland told Funke’s media group “I had a specific request. There was a suspicion that we had a Russian agent of influence in our party. I just wanted to clarify the subject matter. Mr. Maassen said after a certain examination that there was no such thing.
