Police clashed with the rowdy fans of a French social media star who called for his followers to meet him in the centre of Brussels on Wednesday, November 15.
These videos taken by Brussels-based journalism student Katya Bohdan showed crowds of people gathered for Snapchat and Instagram star Vargasss92 in Place de la Monnaie and the following chaos. The city’s mayor Philippe Close tweeted he called for police to disperse the crowds after he received reports of an “unauthorised meeting”.
At least 31 people were arrested during the riot, including 18-year-old Frenchman Vargasss92, local media reported. The Muntpunt library building was damaged in the fracas, and cars were attacked, it was reported.
